Happy Thanksgiving!
Who could imagine that I would be here to celebrate another Thanksgiving? Well, here I am, with a little bit of cancer that arrived several weeks ago and two infusions completed.
It’s been a lovely day: I get to do the fun little decorative things, while other family members are working on the turkey and the sides. I have a secret though, I have never cooked a turkey in my oven before! That’s because I was either too disorganized to have a turkey cooking in my single oven and do the sides ahead of time, or I just planned on making too much food and there was hardly room for anything!
Either way, I am grateful to be here: I mean really BE HERE. Now obviously you are all here, but are you HERE in capital letters? Can you drop the politics, the pettiness, the religious diatribes and be present? I hope so. I am a work in progress, but one thing I know is that however I feel (I am tired and my stomach feels like an elephant balancing on a tiny ball) it is a blessing that I will be sitting at the table with 7 closest family members and someone who was invited because he would have been alone today.
I want to say a little prayer, and then we can be be silent for a few seconds. before the plates are piled high.
Today I focus on freedom, on joy and gratitude; not anger about the “real” story about Thanksgiving and how eating meat is torture to animals. We can focus on that another day.
Stay HERE for this moment.
Happiest of Days!
